Annerley is a residential suburb located six kilometres south of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. A large part of the suburb is elevated on a ridge, affording it sweeping views of Brisbane CBD and surrounding suburbs. Annerley has been gentrified in recent years and features a number of charming restored Queenslander homes. The suburb is situated between Woolloongabba to the north and Moorooka to the south.
Following European settlement, the area that makes up Annerley today was initially a dairy-farming district. In 1866, The Junction Hotel opened and subdivision occurred in the suburb in the latter decades of the 1800s. A number of churches were built in the suburb in the 1880s and 1890s including St John`s Presbyterian Church, St Philip`s Anglican Church, Thompson Estate Methodist Church and Annerley Congregational Church. Further churches were established in Annerley in the early 1900s.
A number of heritage-listed Queenslander homes and churches feature throughout Annerley. The suburb`s primary shopping strip is situated on Ipswich Road in the centre of Annerley. Yeronga Memorial Park is located adjacent to Annerley`s southwest, and Ekibin Park South is found in the suburb`s east, with Norman Creek running through it.
