Ascot is a residential and recreational suburb located 6.5 kilometres northeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. The suburb is home to Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses, which are found in Ascot`s east. Ascot features beautiful tree-lined streets and handsome heritage homes. The suburb is situated between Hendra and Eagle Farm to the north, and Hamilton and Albion to the south.
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Ascot today were the Aboriginal Turrbal clan. Following European settlement, convicts cleared land and built road in the surrounds in the 1830s. The Eagle Farm Racecourse was established in 1863 and the suburb was subsequently named after Ascot in England, home to the prestigious Ascot Racecourse.
A large portion of Ascot is occupied by its two racecourse. Eagle Farm Racecourse and Doomben Racecourse are located in the suburb`s northeast, with the latter found at Ascot`s eastern extremity. The suburb`s main shopping strip is lined by picturesque poinciana trees, and is situated on Racecourse Road.
