Bulimba is a riverside residential suburb located four kilometres northeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. The suburb features a coveted array of waterside homes, as well as an extensive range of heritage-listed homes and other sites. Bulimba is situated between Hamilton to the north and Hawthorne to the south.
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Bulimba today were the Yuggara people. Following European settlement, the area was first developed in the 1820s as a farming district and was initially named Toogoolawah. Residential subdivision commenced in the 1880s land boom. One of the area`s first schools, the Bulimba School of Arts, opened in 1887.
Vic Lucas Park and Bulimba Golf Club are situated on Bulimba`s northwestern tip, adjacent to the Brisbane River. Bulimba Riverside Park is found in the suburb`s south, facing the neighbouring suburb of Teneriffe. Navy Headquarters South Queensland and HMAS Moreton are located in Bulimba`s north, on the Brisbane River waterfront.
