Carina Heights is a residential and recreational suburb located 10 kilometres southeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. A hill of the suburb`s same name is found in Carina Height and rises 36 metres above sea level. Pine Mountain and Whites Hill Reserve are found in the suburb`s south surrounding the former Pine Mountain quarry. Carina Heights is located between Carina to the north and Mount Gravatt East to the south.
Carina Heights is named after the neighbouring suburb of Carina, with Heights referring to the suburb`s elevated points of Carina Heights (the hill) and Pine Mountain. Carina in turn was named after an estate built on Creek Road in the 1850s. The home was named after the owner`s daughter Kate Carina Thorne. Carina Heights officially separated from Carina in 1975 and became its own suburb.
The suburb`s northern portion is a built up residential area. Belmont Private Hospital is situated in Carina Heights` northeast corner, opposite Westfield Carindale, which is found in the neighbouring suburb of Carindale. The expansive Whites Hill Reserve is located in Carina Heights` south and features a number of bushwalking trails and sporting fields. The reserve surrounds the former Pine Mountain quarry, which today serves as an asphalt recycling facility.
