Carina is a residential suburb located seven kilometres east of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. The suburb sits between Seven Hills Bushland Reserve and Minnippi Parkland. Enjoying convenient proximity to Brisbane CBD and Brisbane River, Carina is situated between the suburbs of Cannon Hill to the north and Seven Hills to the south.
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Carina today are believed to have been Jagera people. The area was first settled by Europeans in the 1850s and was initially used for farming and timber getting. The suburb was named after one of its first properties, an 1850s estate on Creek Road named after the owner’s daughter Kate Carina. The suburb remained largely rural up until after World War II when it developed into a residential suburb.
A number of sports grounds and clubs are found in the suburb`s southeast, including the Carina Leagues Club. A small portion of Minnippi Parkland is found in Carina`s eastern extremity, with the remainder found adjacent to Carina`s north.
