Carindale is a large residential, commercial and recreational suburb located 13 kilometres southeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. Carindale is considered a mini-CBD and features a large Westfield shopping centre, a golf club, bushland reserves and hospitals. Carindale is situated between Tingalpa to the north and Mansfield to the south.
The area that makes up Carindale today was settled by Europeans in the 1850s and was largely used for timber felling and agriculture. Belmont State School opened in 1876 and Carina State School opened in 1917, both schools are located in the suburb`s present day boundaries. The suburb was made its own and separated from the suburb of Belmont in 1980, its name is a combination of "Carin" from the nearby suburb of Carina, and "dale" meaning valley. Carindale was the name of a housing estate, which was built in the area in 1976.
Westfield Carindale is found in the suburb`s northeast and a number of expansive open green spaces are found nearby including Carindale Recreation Reserve and the Pacific Golf Club. The suburb enjoys a continuous winding line of parkland from north to south, surrounding Bulimba Creek.
