Coorparoo is a residential suburb located six kilometres southeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. Home to an impressive array of heritage-listed sites, Coorparoo`s Cavendish Road is well known for its Spanish Mission Revival homes. Coorparoo`s border is partially defined by Norman Creek, which feeds off the nearby Brisbane River. Coorparoo is situated between Norman Park to the north and Greenslopes to the south.
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Coorparoo today were the Coorparoo clan. The clan`s name is derived from Kulpurum, the aboriginal name for Norman Creek. Following European settlement, Coorparoo was largely used as farming land before developing into a residential area in the 1890s land boom.
Coorparoo`s northern extremity sits on Norman Creek, and a number of waterside green spaces are found here, near to Brisbane River. Brisbane City Indoor Sports is also found here. The expansive Whites Hill Reserve is found adjacent to Coorparoo`s southeastern border.
