Greenslopes is a residential and commercial suburb located six kilometres south of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. The suburb is largely residential but also features some commercial amenities and Greenslopes Private Hospital. Stephens Mountain (55m) is found in the suburb`s southwest. Greenslopes enjoys convenient proximity to Brisbane CBD and is situated between Stones Corner to the north and Turragindi to the south.
Following European settlement, one of the earliest estates in the area that makes up the suburb today was named Greenslopes. Purchased by Frederick Wecker in 1857, he named his estate after the district`s green pastures. During the land boom of the 1880s, Greenslopes began to be subdivided around 1887. The suburb formed part of Stephens Shire until its amalgamation with 20 other local shires into Greater Brisbane in 1925. Many of the suburb`s homes were constructed pre-war, lending Greenslopes a historic and heritage-imbued atmosphere.
Stephens Mountain rises 55 metres and is situated in the suburb`s southwest, near Greenslopes Private Hospital. Ekibin Park East, Greenslopes Bowling Green, Thompson Estate Reserve and Jones Park form a contiguous green corridor in the suburb`s west.
