Hamilton is an affluent waterside residential suburb located five kilometres northeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. Sitting on the northern bank of the Brisbane River opposite Bulimba, Hamilton features a small industrial port area southeast of Kingsford Smith Drive, which is in the process of being redeveloped into a gentrified residential area. Hamilton is situated between Ascot to the north and Bulimba to the south.

From its inception, Hamilton was a well to do suburb and was subdivided into residential lots in the 1880s. Charles Kingsford Smith, the Australian aviation pioneer, was born in Hamilton in 1897. Hamilton State School opened in the suburb in 1907. In 2008, the Northshore Hamilton project was announced, which is seeing 304 hectares of riverfront land redeveloped into a residential and recreational area.
Toorak House, a large stately villa, is found in Hamilton`s residential west, not far from Crosby Park and Albion Park Paceway in neighbouring Albion. Portside Wharf Shopping Mall is found between the Brisbane River and Hercules Street Park. To the east of the shopping mall lies Northshore Brisbane, a newly built residential development in the suburb`s former industrial riverside precinct.
