Manly is a residential and recreational bayside suburb located 20 kilometres east of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. Manly sits on Moreton Bay and is largely a residential suburb but also features a number of recreational bayside areas and boating clubs. The suburb features its own harbour and marina. Manly is situated on the eastern shore of Moreton Bay, between the suburbs of Wynnum to the north and Lota to the south.
The original inhabitants of the area that makes up Manly today were the Mipirimm subclan of the Quandamooka people. The European settlement of Manly took place in 1859. The first home in the suburb was a stone homestead called Wyvernleigh, and later known as Tingalpa House. The suburb was named after the beachside suburb of Manly in Sydney. In 1889, a railway line was opened that provided direct transport to central Brisbane and by the early 20th century, Manly had become a popular seaside destination.
Eastwood Beach and George Clayton Park are found in Manly`s north, both sitting on Moreton Bay. Manly Boat Harbour, Wynnum Manly Yacht Club Marina, and a number of boating clubs are situated in the suburb`s south.
