Norman Park is a residential riverside suburb located six kilometres east of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. Sitting on the southeastern shore of Brisbane River, opposite New Farm, Norman Park enjoys proximity to Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley via the Story Bridge in Kangaroo Point. The suburb is situated between Hawthorne to the north and Coorparoo to the south.
European settlement first took place in the area that makes up Norman Park today in 1853. Initial development in the area was minimal, and largely centred on dairying and leatherworks. Norman Park State School opened in 1900. A steam tram service operated in the suburb between 1912 and 1926. The first major housing subdivision occurred in 1922, with more significant residential development taking place after WWII. Extensive reclamation of land in the suburb`s low-lying areas created parks and playing fields in the mid 20th century.
Eulalia is a heritage-listed villa, built in 1889, which still stands on McIllwraith Avenue. A number of parks and playing fields are found in the suburb`s south, on the banks of Norman Creek, including Wilson Park and Norman Park, not far from Norman Park train station.
