Pinkenba is an industrial and residential waterside suburb located 10 kilometres northeast of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. The suburb is bound by Brisbane Airport to its west and Moreton Bay and Brisbane River to its east. Pinkenba is largely an industrial suburb, but also features a small residential area in its town centre. Owing to its location next to Brisbane Airport, Pinkenba can only be accessed via its southern neighbouring suburb of Eagle Farm.
The original inhabitants of the area were the Turrbal people. The suburb`s name derives from the Turrbal word binkinba, meaning "place of land tortoise". In 1892, the Queensland Meat Export and Agency Company`s meatworks opened in Pinkenba and a residential town was subsequently established nearby where workers could live close to their work. In the 1930s, Pinkenba was one of Qantas`s flying boat bases.
A number of heritage-listed sites exist in the suburb including Pinkenba War Memorial and the Luggage Point Stores Buildings. Brisbane International Cruise Terminal is found in Pinkenba`s north, past the Moreton Bay mouth of Brisbane River.
