Wakerley is a residential suburb located 18 kilometres east of Brisbane`s central business district, in the local government area of the City of Brisbane. Largely a residential area, Wakerley also contains a small light industry area in its east. The suburb features an extensive network of parks and green spaces, with Green Camp Road Park the most notable. Wakerley is situated between Manly West to the north and Gumdale to the south.
The suburb is named after one of the area`s early European settlers, John William Wakerley. Agnew School opened in 2003 in Norman Park, and relocated to Wakerley in 2008.
The expansive Green Camp Road Park is found in Wakerley`s northeastern corner. The suburb features a number of other green spaces including Sheriff Park, Wakerley Park and Mossvale Drive Park. Shopping amenities are located in neighbouring suburbs, with Woolworths Manly West situated directly adjacent to Wakerley`s northern border. The bayside suburbs of Manly and Lota are found nearby to Wakerley`s east. Brisbane CBD is a 15 to 20 minute drive from the suburb.
